FALFURRIAS, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol agents continue to encounter careless tactics as smugglers place profits over human life.

On Saturday afternoon, an agent conducting immigration inspections at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint interviewed a 20 year-old man attempting to pass through. During the brief interview, the driver began to exhibit nervous behavior prompting the agent to ask if he could check inside the trunk of his vehicle. Inside the locked trunk, agents discovered a Guatemalan juvenile. Agents checked on the medical status of the child and escorted him into the checkpoint. Agents arrested the driver and measured the temperature inside the trunk to be 103 degrees Fahrenheit. The boy was not in need of medical attention.

Agents referred the case for federal prosecution.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
