McALLEN, Texas – The recent Jumpstart Career Expo, organized by Workforce Solutions (WFS) in partnership with the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, Lone Star National Bank, Hidalgo County, and the McAllen Economic Development Corporation (EDC), proved to be a resounding success, drawing a remarkable 690 job seekers and resulting in 412 job seekers invited by employers to begin the application and screening processes to obtain employment. The event, held at the Bert Ogden Arena, showcased the collaborative efforts of local businesses and community organizations committed to fostering employment opportunities and economic growth in the region.

The career expo saw an impressive turnout, with 18 individuals receiving on-the-spot job offers from a variety of industries. Employers were enthusiastic about the quality of candidates and the event’s organization. Ismael Resendez of Matt’s Building Materials shared his excitement, stating, “Great event. I hired 2 individuals at the event. Had about 30 applications turned in and another 20 that were taken.”
The McAllen Chamber of Commerce played a pivotal role in the event’s success, with Jorge Sanchez, Interim Chief Operating Officer, expressing his satisfaction. “We were very pleased with the event results,” he remarked, “The event could not have been made possible without the support of Workforce Solutions.”
The McAllen EDC also contributed significantly. Josh Vasquez introduced Mr. Teruaki Ido from Hagihara Industries McAllen Corp, a new textile manufacturing venture in McAllen. Mr. Ido was thrilled about the warm reception, stating he felt “very welcomed and supported.” Ms. Susie Flores from the McAllen EDC echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the positive environment fostered by the expo.
