RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – Western Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday that junior and Brownsville Veterans alum Julie Lucio of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team has been named WAC Golfer of the Week.
Lucio paced the Vaqueros at the Islander Classic where she posted a career-best tying three-round score of 219 to finish tied for sixth place out of 96 golfers. Lucio now holds two of the top-four lowest three round scores in program history.
Lucio opened with a back-to-back rounds of 74 before posting an even par 71 to close out the tournament as she helped the Vaqueros to a fourth place finish while setting a program record with a three-round score of 890.
This is Lucio’s third-career WAC Golfer of the Week honor after earning it twice last season.,
The Vaqueros will be back in action on February 28 when they tee it up at the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona.
