Juan Vargas, Jr., affectionately known as “Juanito,” inspires dedication and excellence at the Bert Ogden Auto Group. His commitment and exceptional work ethic have made him a beloved and integral part of the team. This year, Juanito celebrated his 75th birthday at the GMC showroom in Edinburg, surrounded by colleagues and friends who hold him in high esteem.

Heartfelt tributes and joyous festivities marked the celebration. Billy Kelley, the general manager, expressed his admiration and gratitude for Juanito. “I am coming to celebrate the day. Mr. Juanito is celebrating 75 years old,” Kelley announced. “He shows up every day, has a smile on his face, has enough good mornings for everybody that he sees, and he’s just a testament to his great attitude, hard work, and everything that makes Juanito Juanito. We are so grateful that he is part of our team; we love and are grateful for him. Thank you, Juanito. Happy birthday.”

Adding to the shared joy, one of Bert Ogden Auto Group’s principals, Mr. Robert C. Vackar, joined the celebration. He shared, “I was unaware that he was 75; I am 81, and I can see he’s catching up to me. Congratulations, Juanito.”

The festivities reached a high note when Hector Guerra’s Mariachi band played the traditional birthday song “Las Mañanitas” exclusively for Juanito, creating a festive and heartfelt atmosphere. The celebration was complete with a large cake shared among everyone present, symbolizing the unity and appreciation felt by all for Juanito’s remarkable journey.

Born in McAllen, Texas, Juanito spent 15 years in Irapuato, Guanajuato. At 15, he moved to the United States to work, beginning a lifelong dedication to his career. He started with the Bert Ogden Auto Group in September 1992, marking 32 years of service in September 2024. Juanito reflected on his time with the company and said, “Of course, they have treated me very well. I like my job and have been performing well all these years. I’m happy with all these years, and I will continue as long as God keeps me alive and healthy, and I can work.”

Juanito’s tenure with the company began after the era of Bert Ogden and his wife Dorothy, who passed away the same year he started. He deeply respects Mr. Robert C. Vackar, describing him as a very good person who has always treated him well. “He’s been very kind, and I’ve never had any problem with him,” Juanito noted. He also spoke fondly of Mrs. Janet Vackar, calling her a lovely, kind, and cheerful person who is always very happy.

As the celebration continued, it became clear that Juanito’s presence inspired. He is a hardworking individual who has fostered positive relationships over the years. His story exemplifies dedication, resilience, and the lasting impact one person can have on a community.

As one of the largest dealerships in the Rio Grande Valley, Bert Ogden Auto Group celebrated a remarkable milestone for one of its most dedicated employees, fondly known as “Juanito.” His birthday celebration highlighted not only his long-standing commitment to the company but also his rich personal history and the values that have guided his life.

Juanito’s life is rooted in strong family ties. Married to Maria Guadalupe, he cherishes their enduring relationship. “Yes, she is still with me,” he says proudly. Both joy and sorrow have marked their family journey. They had three children: Juan Manuel Vargas, III, Sofia, and Veronica. Sadly, Juanito’s eldest son, Juan Manuel, passed away in 2007 due to a sudden heart attack. Reflecting on his son’s service in the Navy during the first Gulf War, Juanito speaks with a blend of pride and melancholy. “I feel proud of him and of all those who have given their lives for the country,” he says, “but at the same time, I also feel sad because he’s gone. But proud because he served his country.”

Family continues to be a cornerstone of Juanito’s life, enriched by his four grandchildren. His eldest grandson is 23, the next 16, and his youngest daughter has two boys, aged three and 11. “All boys, no girls,” Juanito chuckles, highlighting the vibrant next generation of his family.

Juanito’s motivation to work is deeply ingrained. “I’ve always been a worker,” he states firmly. His parents instilled in him the importance of hard work and earning a living. This work ethic is not just a necessity but a passion for Juanito. “I prefer to be active all the time,” he explains, highlighting his dislike for laziness.

Outside of work, Juanito enjoys simple pleasures. He relishes Mexican cuisine, especially beans, eggs, and salsa, with a particular fondness for pork ribs. “Medium, just medium for taste,” he says about his preference for spicy food, valuing flavor over intense heat.

Juanito enjoys fishing, although infrequently. He typically goes to Port Mansfield or the island once a month or every two months, savoring the tranquility of the activity.

At Bert Ogden Auto Group, Juanito manages the car lot. He aligns and parks cars replaces sold vehicles, fuels them, and handles essential documentation, even taking it to Harlingen. His meticulous attention to detail and dedication ensures smooth operations.

Gratitude fills Juanito’s outlook on life. “I am grateful to God for my good health,” he says sincerely. He also deeply appreciates the Vackars, who continue to provide him with work. “As long as I’m able, I will keep working,” he affirms. His dedication is firm, and he plans to keep contributing as long as his health permits. “The day I feel sick, I will say thank you, goodbye, and leave,” Juanito concludes.

Juanito’s 75th birthday celebration at Bert Ogden Auto Group was more than a milestone; it demonstrated a life dedicated to family, hard work, and steady loyalty. His story continues to inspire, reflecting the essential values that make him an exceptional individual and a cherished member of the Bert Ogden family.
