McALLEN – John Ingram, incumbent McAllen District 5 City Commissioner, announced his candidacy for his fifth term, last Wednesday. Filing on the first day possible, Ingram secured his place on the May 4th ballot, becoming the first candidate to announce his 2019 bid for re-election. Ingram has held the District 5 Commission seat since 2005.
“I’m running again in the city I love because there is still a lot to do here in McAllen, and there is more work to be done for McAllen’s residents and business owners,” says Ingram. Ingram believes in maintaining fiscal responsibility and accountability in government, encouraging small businesses, increasing job opportunities, boosting tourism through the preservation of historic buildings and promoting our city’s recreational facilities and cultural events.
“Since my first election to represent District 5, we’ve added numerous attractions for McAllen’s residents and visitors, like the Art Incubator located in the old Downtown Library, the new library, the Old Church Winery, the Convention Center, Performing Arts Center, Food Truck Park, the Las Palmas Historic District, Central Fire Station, a Community Garden, McAllen B Cycle bike share program, parks, walking trails, sidewalks, DeLeon Soccer Complex, McAllen Youth Baseball Complex, McAllen Sports Park, McAllen Nature Center, Palms Crossing Shopping Center, Quinta Mazatlan and covered bus stops, just to name a few,” Ingram says.
According to Ingram, he does his part to preserve McAllen’s natural beauty with frequent neighborhood cleanups in District 5. First and foremost, Ingram pledges to continue listening to people’s concerns about our city’s issues. Fluent in both Spanish and English, the commissioner walks his district’s neighborhoods, knocking on doors and speaking to the residents.
Ingram, a graduate of Texas A&M School of Law and member of the Hidalgo County Bar Association, owns Ingram Law Firm P.C., specializing in Social Security benefits. He has been President of the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council and is currently a McAllen-Hidalgo County International Bridge Board Member, Anzalduas International Bridge Board Member and a member of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce since 2005.
