January 6, 2025–Edinburg, Texas – Jason De Leon, the incumbent Councilmember for Place 2 and current Mayor Pro Tem of Edinburg, has officially declared his intention to seek re-election. In a recent announcement, De Leon expressed his enthusiasm for continuing his service to the community, stating, “I am thrilled to inform you that I am running for re-election after completing my first term as your Edinburg City Councilmember Place 2! It has been an absolute honor serving all of you, and I look forward to continuing to put in the hard work on your behalf.”
Reflecting on his first term, De Leon highlighted the progress made and emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to enhance the city’s future. He remarked, “While we have achieved a great deal together, there is still so much more important work that needs to be taken care of, and I am fully committed to keeping up the momentum that we have built.”
De Leon’s tenure has been marked by active community engagement and participation in initiatives to improve residents’ quality of life. Notably, he has promoted health and wellness programs, such as the Healthier Texas Community Challenge, where he encouraged residents to participate in activities fostering a healthier lifestyle.
In his re-election message, De Leon humbly requested the community’s continued support, stating, “As we move ahead, I humbly ask for your support to keep on creating a better future for our families, businesses, and community as a whole.”
De Leon was first elected to the Edinburg City Council in December 2021, alongside Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. and Councilmember Daniel “Dan” Diaz. Their inauguration marked a significant shift in the city’s leadership, which now focuses on transparency and community-driven initiatives.
