Speaking with clear enthusiasm for the work behind the festival, Tawil described how the city’s commitment to creativity and collaboration continues to elevate McAllen’s holiday experience. He explained that “quality of life isn’t just a phrase that we use in McAllen. It’s a promise we keep,” noting that events like the South Pole Illuminated Festival help make the city vibrant, welcoming, and full of life.

Tawil invited residents to see the transformation of the convention center district firsthand, calling it a “winter wonderland that rivals any in the nation.” He highlighted that the festival features millions of lights, world-class attractions, and new experiences designed for families of every age and every generation.” For Tawil, the magic is not only in the displays themselves, but in the togetherness they inspire. “What makes this event truly special is how it brings our community together,” he said, emphasizing the pride he feels in the teamwork between city departments, sponsors, local organizations, and volunteers.

He expressed excitement about the festival’s growing regional impact, noting that these celebrations “draw thousands of visitors from across Texas and beyond,” boosting local businesses and creating lasting memories for families. Tawil encouraged McAllen residents to come out and be part of that energy. “Placemaking is more than building attractions,” he said. “It’s about creating belonging.” He added that the South Pole Illuminated Festival, along with the McAllen Holiday Parade, strengthens community bonds while fueling economic opportunity.
