PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) held a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase II additions and renovations of LBJ Middle School in Pharr on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021. 

Renovations to the campus were first completed in 2012 with Phase I of the project including demolishing almost the entire campus and replacing it with new facilities. Today, Phase II will create a new practice gym, cafeteria with a large production kitchen, and converting an existing gym into a fine arts complex.

“Despite the pandemic and other challenges our world is facing, our school board and administration are committed to keep moving our district forward and continue providing a high-quality education for our students,” said PSJA School Board President Jorge L. Zambrano.

PSJA ISD will be investing over $11.4 million in the Phase II project which will add 40,646 sq.ft. to the existing campus. Continuing in the district’s efforts to provide outdoor learning areas for students, a new amphitheater will be featured in the courtyard area where students will be able to gather, learn, and socialize during school hours or while waiting to be picked up.

“This work is part of our efforts to continue providing the best opportunities for our students to learn and thrive in,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “We take pride in offering state-of-the-art facilities for our students at every level as they pursue their PK3-12 education with us.” 

Students present at the event expressed excitement for the additions and improvements to their campus. 

“I am super proud to be a part of the PSJA Family and excited for the future students who will get to experience this beautiful facility,” said LBJ Middle School 8th grader Isabella Hernandez.
