MISSION, Texas – Several illegal aliens encountered a treacherous obstacle that nearly cost two individuals their lives.

Thursday evening, McAllen agents working near Mission, Texas received information of a group of suspected illegal aliens travelling north of the Rio Grande. As agents searched the area, they observed several people attempting to swim across a water filled canal. Agents responded to the area and upon arrival, they encountered the illegal aliens who advised agents of two males who nearly drowned. A Border Patrol Agent / Emergency Medical Technician (BPA-EMT) responded to the area after agents reported that a man later identified as a Salvadoran national, lost consciousness while in the canal. They also reported that a man initiated Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) helping the man regain consciousness. Upon arrival, a BPA/EMT assessed the male and requested for an ambulance service to be dispatched to transport the Salvadoran national to a local medical facility.
