Rio Grande Valley, TX – IDEA Public Schools is proud to announce that Diego Rocha, from IDEA Toro’s class of 2020, has been signed to a professional contract with the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) FC Toros.
At just 19, he is the fourth alumnus from IDEA Toros to sign with a professional soccer team, but the first to sign a professional contract with RGVFC Toros. This makes him the first “homegrown” player, which means he was developed through the RGVFC Youth Academy and officially signed to the first team.
“I’m honored and privileged to be the first one and I’ll do my best to pave the way for the academy and younger generation from Laredo to the Valley. Hopefully the players from the academy and from the valley see that it is possible,” says Rocha.
“Diego has embodied our school vision, where character and excellence open the door to opportunities,” says Viviane Castillo-Manzano. “We’re so very proud of his focus in reaching his goal, and he is an inspiration to all our student athletes at IDEA Toros.”
Rocha will enter his second season overall with the Toros after making three appearances during the 2020 USL Championship season as a USL amateur signing.
