McAllen, Texas – Curious about public charter schools and how they play a role in strengthening public education in Texas? IDEA Public Schools invites community members, families, and elected officials in the Rio Grande Valley to learn more at an open house on Friday, January 31.
The open house, which will take place from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at IDEA McAllen’s campus, will include a community breakfast and presentation about how IDEA Public Schools expands educational opportunity while collaborating with both charter and traditional school districts. The event is one of a series of events in the Rio Grande Valley to celebrate School Choice Week.
The event’s speakers include Catharine Bellinger, vice president of public affairs and advocacy at IDEA Public Schools; Joan Álvarez, principal at IDEA College Prep McAllen; and Darlene Espinoza, principal at IDEA Academy McAllen.
This event takes place during the largest celebration of National School Choice Week yet, which will feature more than 50,000 events across all 50 states highlighting the role of school choice in expanding opportunities for students from all backgrounds.
“A public charter school education has given my family and others access to extraordinary teachers and support staff and a ‘Team and Family’ approach. I believe it’s made all the difference,” said Susan Moses, IDEA Academy McAllen family member. “I’m excited that we can host this Community Open House so more people can learn about public charter schools and the opportunities they offer to all students.”
IDEA Public Schools is a family of tuition-free, college-preparatory public charter schools founded in the Rio Grande Valley in 2000. Since then, IDEA has opened schools in Austin, San Antonio, El Paso and Tarrant County in Texas, as well as Baton Rouge and New Orleans in Louisiana – serving more than 53,000 students in total. For 13 consecutive years, 100 percent of IDEA Public Schools’ graduates have been accepted to four-year colleges and universities.
IDEA’s McAllen campus is located at 201 N. Bentsen Rd.
