For the 11th consecutive year, IDEA college preparatory schools in the Rio Grande Valley were ranked among the best performing high schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Earning the top spot of schools in the Rio Grande Valley is IDEA Frontier in Brownsville, which ranked also ranked as the 15thbest school in the state of Texas, and among the top 10 charter schools in the state.
“While these rankings pertain to high schools, the success would not be possible without a strong foundation at the academy and middle school level,” says JoAnn Gama, Co-Founder, President and Superintendent of IDEA Public Schools. “We congratulate each of these schools and applaud our teachers and students for their commitment to excellence.”
According to U.S. News & World Report, the 2019 Best High Schools rankings take a more holistic approach to evaluating schools, looking at six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates. Specifically, college readiness measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams. The new methodology assigns weights to the six factors and then produces an overall score on which the ranking is based.
In U.S. News & World Report’s2019 ranking of best high schools in the nation released this week, a total of eight IDEA high schools received rankings on the list. More than 17,000 public high schools across the country were analyzed in order to determine the rankings.
