DONNA, Texas – IDEA Public Schools is excited to announce that Destiny Avila, a senior at IDEA Donna College Preparatory, was surprised with a $48,000 scholarship from The University of Texas at Austin during a special ceremony on Thursday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. at IDEA Donna (401 S 1st St, Donna TX 78537).

Campus staff describe Destiny as a hardworking student who balances her schoolwork with supporting her family. Destiny works at a fast-food restaurant to help support her family. Despite all of her responsibilities, she remains at the top of her class. Destiny is the president of an organization that serves as the driving force behind the Student Council Food Drive, and a role model to others. Her dedication to her community and desire to pursue a career in social work makes this recognition even more meaningful. In addition to her personal achievements, Destiny has gone above and beyond to help others, proving she’s a compassionate leader in and outside the classroom.
Students selected for the $48,000 scholarship, or $12000 per year over four years, demonstrate exemplary leadership, academic success, financial need, perseverance and community commitment.
