Rio Grande Valley – IDEA Public Schools is proud to announce that IDEA College Prep Alamo senior, Jesus Monrroy-Mazcorro, has been named a Lilly Scholar, Wabash College’s most prestigious scholarship.
There were thousands of applicants, but only 15 are selected as finalists. As a selected finalist, Jesus traveled to Wabash and was interviewed by professors and a selection board. Jesus is the first IDEA Alamo and IDEA Public Schools scholar to be named a Lilly Scholar from Wabash College. He was only one of three recipients of this award.
The Lilly Scholar Award is designed to recognize outstanding young men who have made significant contributions to their school and community and demonstrate high potential and future promise to do the same as a Wabash student. The selection committee is confident that Jesus will model for others the ideals of the scholarship and Wabash.
The Lilly Award covers the full cost of tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board for his four years at Wabash College, commonly known as a ‘full-ride’ scholarship.
This year, IDEA Public Schools is celebrating 20 years of impact on students, families, staff, and communities. During the last two decades, IDEA Public Schools has grown from a small school with 150 students to the fastest-growing network of tuition-free, Pre-K-12 public charter schools in the United States. Currently, the network serves nearly 53,000 college-bound students in 96 schools across Texas and Louisiana.
