SAN JUAN, TX – Hundreds of students from the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) were honored for their dedication to reading during the annual “Read. Grow. Succeed. Planting Seeds for Success” Summer Reads Award Ceremony hosted by the PSJA Library Services Department. The event celebrated Pre-K through 12th-grade students who read the most pages over the summer months at their respective campuses.
Students were recognized by district and campus leaders during the event and received a special plaque commemorating their outstanding reading achievements. This annual event aims to foster a love for reading and support academic growth during the summer break.
A highlight of the evening was an inspiring speech by local author Eliza Garza, who captivated the students with an excerpt from her latest book.
This annual ceremony was made possible yet again through a generous sponsorship of the PSJA Education Foundation, which provided funding for the event through a literacy grant. The foundation’s support is part of its ongoing mission to promote literacy and student achievement across the PSJA ISD school district.
“Summer reading isn’t just about books—it’s about growth, success, and planting the seeds of knowledge that will blossom throughout the school year,’ said PSJA Library Services Director Amy Marquez. The simple act of picking up a book during the summer can change a life, opening doors to new ideas, creativity, and critical thinking.”
Marquez extends her thanks to all the students recognized for their dedication, the parents for their encouragement, and the dedicated team of PSJA ISD librarians for their tireless work in making this program a success. She also extends her thanks to the PSJA Education Foundation, whose generous grant made this event possible.
