Texas Border Business
As young girls, we are brought up to take care of our families and grow up to become women that support our partners. Today, we can do both. Women have evolved to balance family and work. Being able to juggle raising children, cooking, and working is no longer the words of impossible. So what does it take and how does she do it? Well, the most important thing is to organize family first in order to provide structure within the household. With the proper tools, you will be able to be the “mom” and the “boss” at the same time.
You may be thinking, who is this person giving us advice and how would she know? I am a mother of two daughters, who has gone through two divorces that has led me to a financial crisis. Seeing my children go through the struggles with me helped me rise and be a role model for them to show women can do it all. It was not easy, but it starts with inner strength, organization, and self-motivation. I started my own company while working a fulltime job to be able to escape the 9-5 grind; I wanted to grow my business so I can continue to have the flexibility with work and family as well as survive the financial burdens.
Here are a few things that helped me juggle my life with work and raising children:
1) Organization in the home: This is key to providing balance. Once you organize your family then you will be able to focus on other areas successfully. A chart helped me establish this with my daughters that
shows house chores, homework, maintaining respect within the siblings and parents, and rewards for their efforts. Consider this a project with your family by including them and color-coding items. Make it fun for the family. The chart can be displayed or shared on an app.
2) Being involved with your children: Now I know you may be thinking how you can have the energy to work and stay motivated for your kids. Sometimes you too can unwind by watching a movie with your
kids and sharing your day with each other. As you are preparing dinner, your children can be at eye view to assist them with homework or any questions they have on friends. I always found having the children do their homework at the table gives you a chance to engage with them while cooking. Kids today may be on their phones or watching tv, but if you have them focus on homework first, that gives you the chance to be there for them and focus on their work first before play. Instilling these study habits will go a long way for your children to be able to use these skills their whole life.
3) Establish your company: Everyone has their passion and calling, whatever this may be then you should empower yourself. Starting off slow is crucial, you do not want to become overwhelmed and discourage yourself. Slow and steady is the key to success. If you found a passion, start by conducting a survey to determine if the area already has a company like your idea. Once you have done this, get a simple website started. I used Wix.com as a launching point that is affordable. The website can be distributed on social media with Facebook, LinkedIn, and other websites. By doing this, you will need to establish a separate page tailored to your business.
Starting your own business can be scary, but remember you are on your way to financial freedom. I will show you ways to do this in other articles. Always keep your full-time job to be able to maintain your responsibilities at home, but never lose sight of building your empire.
Today, my two daughters have grown to become self-sufficient and independent women. Both achieving full rides scholarships to prestigious colleges. The tools I have provided you above are the foundation to raising strong women by providing a stable environment at home, being proactive in their lives, and being the “supermom” that we were born to be.
We have come a long way from the Renaissance era, but we are working every day to show we can do it all. Why not, right?
