PHARR, Texas – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) theatre troupes from PSJA North Early College High School and PSJA Southwest Early College High School have been ranked among top in the State by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). PSJA Southwest ECHS was named the 5A UIL State Champion Theater Team and PSJA North ECHS earned 2nd Place in the 6A UIL Theatre Team.
Rankings come from UIL and derive from a combination of overall results from the State Film, State One-Act Play, and State Theatrical Design competitions.
Most recently, both troupes competed at the UIL State One-Act Play and Theatrical Design competition. PSJA North’s Zoot Suit and PSJA Southwest’s Ugly Lies the Bone advanced through 6A and 5A UIL Zone, District, Bi-District, Area, and Regional Competitions before advancing to compete at the highest level, State.
“Competing at State places them among the top eight plays in their conference, PSJA Southwest ECHS in 5A and PSJA North ECHS in 6A,” said PSJA Fine Arts Director Jon Taylor. “Both schools gave outstanding performances!”
In addition to their troupes placing among the top in the State, the following students received individual awards:
