EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County will open a new public parking lot in Downtown Edinburg December 10. The lot sits at 207 E. Loeb St., two blocks northeast of the new courthouse, and adds 105 spaces for jurors, visitors and employees.

Construction was originally set to wrap in the new year, but crews finished the lot in just three months. They started work in mid-September and completed it on December 9. The new lot opened as the county closed Lot 1 for the City of Edinburg to begin building its new Downtown Parking Garage.
County Judge Richard F. Cortez thanked the public for their patience throughout the construction process.
“We know parking has been a challenge, and adding these spaces is a meaningful improvement for the people who visit the courthouse every day,” said Cortez. “I want to commend the Executive Office, Facilities Management and the District Attorney’s Office for working quickly and diligently to get this project completed in record time.”
Visitors can also use other county lots around the courthouse, including the L2 lot at 317 N. Closner Blvd.; the L3 lot at 405 N. Closner Blvd.; as well as the A2 lot on the 300 block of S. 12th St. and the A3 lot on the 300 block of E. Mahl St.

All county parking lots offer free accessible shuttle service to the courthouse through Valley Metro. The shuttles run Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and arrive at each lot every 15 minutes. Valley Metro will also add a shuttle stop at the new lot on Loeb in the coming days.

The county encourages drivers to follow posted signs and detours, watch for pedestrians and use caution at intersections. Pedestrians should stay on designated sidewalks and cross only at marked signals.
