EDINBURG – Hidalgo County, in conjunction with the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas and the Texas Attorney General’s Office, will host an open government seminar to update the media and the public about the state’s open records and open meetings laws.
The event will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in the chambers of the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court, at 100 E. Cano Street in Edinburg.
“Transparency in government is essential for a functioning democracy,” said Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez. “The objective of this seminar is to hear from the experts about how our state’s open government laws work.”
Scheduled speakers include Tamara Smith, the Open Records Division Chief at the Texas Attorney General’s Office; and Tom Williams, partner at Haynes and Boone law firm and executive committee member of the nonprofit Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas.
Seating is limited so registration is required.
