EDINBURG – A 77-year-old Mission man with underlying medical conditions died after testing positive for the COVID-19 virus, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Thursday. This brings to three the number of people who have died after testing positive for the disease — all older men with underlying health issues.
“This disease is particularly tough on our most vulnerable populations,” Judge Cortez said. “I extend my deepest sympathies to the family of this man.”
In addition to the latest fatality, ten new people in HIdalgo County have tested positive for this strain of coronavirus. That brings the total number of positive cases in the county to 235 people.
Three more people were released from isolation meaning they have shown no symptoms for ten days including the last three days without fever. The total number of released patients is 42.
There are 29 people in area hospitals; six of them are in intensive care units. The mayors of the affected communities have been alerted as have the Hidalgo County Commissioners, Judge Cortez said. All of those testing positive and those living in the same household have been ordered to isolate. There will be no further details about the latest group to test positive.
