EDINBURG – On Tuesday, the Hidalgo County Commissioners court recognized the achievements of the Public Affairs Division for winning nine national and state awards for their video productions in 2021.
All throughout the pandemic, the county has labored vigorously to produce educational and informative videos to bring awareness to the public about the pandemic and measures to increase public safety.
“The ability to communicate quickly and effectively with the public becomes even more important at times of challenge and crisis such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” said County Judge Richard F. Cortez. “I am proud of our Public Affairs team for producing videos that consistently deliver clear and effective communication to all residents.”
Three organizations – two statewide (Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers and Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors) and one national (National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors) –recognized the efforts of Hidalgo County by bestowing its Public Affairs Division with a total of nine awards – one 1st place award; five 2nd place awards including Overall Excellence; three 3rd place awards – as well as four honorable mentions for its efforts in communicating important information to the public.
These videos have taken the form of public service announcements, live press conferences and instructional videos which were shared with local media, posted on Hidalgo County’s social media pages and also shared through ads at minimal taxpayer cost to convey critical public safety information.
