EDINBURG – A 64-year-old Edinburg resident was welcomed on Tuesday by Precinct 4 Hidalgo County Commissioner Ellie Torres, the Hidalgo County Urban County team, and others at a “Key-Hand Off” Ceremony to her newly reconstructed mobile home. The Hidalgo County Urban County Program (UCP) and its partner, Clayton Homes CMH Homes, Inc. provided assistance with the complete demolition of a mobile home unit and replaced it with a new mobile home.
The UCP’s Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program provides rehabilitation assistance to eligible low-to-moderate income homeowners. The program’s objective is to implement a program to mitigate the deterioration of substandard homes. This program allows the UCP to work in partnership with qualified homeowners and contractors to maintain the existing housing stock in decent, safe, sanitary and affordable conditions.
While the application process can be tedious and lengthy, qualifying residents have the ability to improve their living conditions immensely. This particular resident was on the waitlist since 2019 and was able to apply in October of 2023. For more information on this program and others, please contact the Hidalgo County Urban County Office at (956) 787-8127.
