EDINBURG – All Hidalgo County offices with the exception of emergency operations will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, because of the deteriorating weather conditions that includes an increasing likelihood of frozen precipitation.
The forecast calls for an increasing likelihood of a wintry precipitation that includes freezing rains and sleet on the roads, making driving conditions hazardous.
In addition, the National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning that will go into effect beginning 3 a.m. on Tuesday and will last until 9 a.m. the same day. This means that dangerously cold wind chills as low as 16 degrees are possible.
“Safety is our top priority, not only for Hidalgo County residents but for Hidalgo County employees,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said. “I encourage everyone to stay indoors and avoid travel during this cold spell.”
