McALLEN, Texas — The Hidalgo County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) successfully conducted a full‑scale Hazardous Materials (HazMat) exercise, bringing together key regional partners to strengthen preparedness and emergency response capabilities. The McAllen Fire Department and the McAllen Emergency Management Department played vital roles in the planning and execution of the operation.

The exercise simulated a complex hazardous materials incident, requiring participating agencies to coordinate decision-making, resource deployment, and public safety strategies in real time. Responders practiced identifying hazards, communicating across disciplines, and implementing protective actions designed to safeguard residents, businesses, and critical infrastructure.
Full‑scale regional exercises are a key component of improving overall readiness, enhancing communication, and identifying areas for continued improvement. By testing capabilities in a realistic, scenario‑based environment, local agencies reinforce their ability to respond quickly and effectively to protect the community.
