EDINBURG – Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez has issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s approval of a Major Disaster Declaration for Texas for the March 2025 floods:
“I am thankful that President Trump has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Texas. This will allow FEMA to provide much needed federal disaster assistance to Hidalgo County residents affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred March 26–28, 2025.
These storms caused widespread damage to homes and businesses. I encourage all residents affected by the floods to first file a claim with their insurance provider and then apply for FEMA assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA App.
We will continue to monitor the availability of additional resources for our residents.
Once again we thank Senator John Cornyn, Senator Ted Cruz, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, and Governor Greg Abbott for initially making the request for federal assistance to President Trump.”
