EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace (JP) Pct. 4, Place 2 Andre Maldonado is proud to announce the implementation of a new electronic filing (E-Filing) system, marking a historic milestone in the modernization of local court operations. Maldonado’s office will be going LIVE, launching the system on November 17.
This initiative aligns Hidalgo County with other leading Texas counties, including Cameron, Bexar, Travis, and Harris, in embracing digital technology to improve judicial efficiency and public access to justice.
For decades, JP Courts across Texas have relied primarily on paper filings to exchange information. Managing, processing, and storing these paper documents has long been a logistical and financial challenge for courts statewide. The transition to digital filing brings immediate and substantial benefits: reducing storage costs, minimizing the risk of lost or misplaced documents, and improving the overall speed and efficiency of case processing.
“With the introduction of E-Filing, our clerks can focus their time on higher-value tasks, rather than sorting and stamping paper documents,” said Maldonado. “Most importantly, attorneys, litigants, and the public will have faster, more reliable access to court documents, ensuring a more transparent and responsive judicial process.”
E-Filing is already mandatory for attorneys filing civil, family, probate, or criminal cases in the Supreme Court of Texas, the Court of Criminal Appeals, the Courts of Appeals, and all district and county courts. Now, with Hidalgo County’s implementation, Justice of the Peace Precinct 4, place 2 will join this growing statewide effort to fully digitize court records. While E-Filing is not yet required for non-attorney filers, it is strongly encouraged to take advantage of its convenience and efficiency.
“This is an exciting and important advancement for Precinct 4 and for Hidalgo County as a whole,” said Maldonado. “Adopting this system will better serve our residents.”
