EDINBURG – The Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance will present a $300,000 grant to the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency in support of the Operation Bravo Zulu Program.

The award will be presented in the form of an oversized check during a news conference held at the Cameron County Courthouse, 1100 E. Monroe, in Brownsville at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 5.

Bravo Zulu, also referred to as BZ, is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning “Well done,” with regard to actions, operations, or performance. The CSA’s Operation Bravo Zulu Program aims to assist veterans who live below 200 percent of the federal poverty level by helping to pay for utility costs. In addition, it also serves as a venue for veterans to access important services available to them in the communities in which they live, explains CSA Executive Director Jaime Longoria.

“Operation Bravo Zulu has really allowed us to have dialogue with many of the veterans in need around the community,” said Longoria. “Through this program, we have identified persons who served this country who were struggling, and I am proud to say that we have been able to address those needs.”
