A total of 12 applicants submitted their letters of intent and resumes to the Hidalgo County Judge’s Office for the Hidalgo County Interim Sheriff position by the deadline of April 1st. On Wednesday, April 2, 2014 Hidalgo County Commissioners Court reviewed the resumes, made their decision and voted unanimously for J.E “Eddie” Guerra.

Mr. Guerra has worked in law enforcement since 1995, when he began his career as a reserve deputy with the Hidalgo County Constable Office for Precinct 4. During his career he has also worked as a reserve deputy for the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and Constable Office for Precinct 1. In 2008, Mr. Guerra ran for Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Constable, where he won the election by a two to one margin. He was re-elected into office in November 2012 for another four year term. By taking the position of Sheriff, Mr. Guerra is stepping down from his position as Constable. The court will begin the process of selecting an interim Constable at a later date.

The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court accepted the bond posted by J.E. “Eddie” Guerra and officially sworn him in as the interim Sheriff of Hidalgo County. The ceremony took place at 2:30 pm on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Edinburg City Council Chambers. Following the ceremony, Mr. Guerra sworn in the Sheriff’s deputies at 3:30 pm at the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Academy.
