EDINBURG â€“ The filing deadline has been set for anyone wanting to run for the Hidalgo County Appraisal District. Hidalgo County residents who are interested in running for the board may file their candidacy beginning January 17, 2024. The filing period ends on February 16, 2024.

The election itself will be held on May 4, 2024.

The Hidalgo County Appraisal District is composed of a board of six appointed members, but a new law is expanding that board to a total of nine members. Three of those seats will be filled by an election.

Candidates must have been a resident of Hidalgo County for at least two years prior to the election.

Interested candidates may file in person at the Hidalgo County Judge’s Office at 100 E. Cano, Suite 201 in Edinburg. Filing may occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and noon as well as between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
