Temple Emanuel in McAllen was the host for the second in a series of three open discussions by the leaders of two religions in the Rio Grande Valley. The gathering, which was attended by a little over 100 attendees, is titled Hermanos – Dialogues for Wisdom.
Rabbi Claudio Kogan of Temple Emanuel and Bishop Daniel E. Flores of the Brownsville Catholic Diocese conducted the two-hour discussion. It was an opportunity for both religious leaders to give very thoughtful insights into how both religions view today’s world. The discussion centered not only the differences but the similarities of the two beliefs.
Those attending had an opportunity to ask and certainly got some very thought provoking responses to questions about the origins of the religions and how their followers are practicing and how they might practice their beliefs in today’s world. The discussion gave listeners a better understanding on how each religion believes and how they practice those beliefs.
The original idea for the discussions came from Bishop Flores after visiting the Temple during the Jewish Holiday of Passover. The invitation had come from Rabbi Kogan. Monday’s event was the second, the first took place in October and it was held at Our Lady of Sorrows School Gym in McAllen.
A third Hermanos – Dialogue for Wisdom will be held Monday, February 3, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the University of Texas Pan American Student Union Theater.
