AUSTIN, TX — Today, Senator Joan Huffman, Chairwoman of the Senate Jurisprudence Committee announced an upcoming hearing to examine the law and jurisprudence governing the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC). The hearing will study whether additional jurisprudential safeguards, such as statutes or administrative provisions, could have prevented the ongoing public utility crisis. Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa serves as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Jurisprudence Committee.

“What is occurring across our state is unacceptable. I look forward to joining Chairwoman Huffman and my colleagues on the Senate Jurisprudence Committee in asking tough questions to ERCOT leadership, charged with overseeing the reliability and security of the energy grid, and the PUC,” said Senator Hinojosa. “Governor Abbott has made ERCOT reform an emergency item and we will have hearings to address all ERCOT issues that should have prevented this crisis. Texas is the 9th largest economy in the world and a winter storm should not have to completely shut down our economy and expose our Texas families to this health risk and suffering,” added Senator Hinojosa.

Once the hearing is publicly posted, the agenda will be available on the following link: https://bit.ly/3atUZva.
