San Antonio, TX – March 1, 2025- Health officials have issued an alert regarding possible measles exposure in the San Antonio area after a measles-positive individual from Gaines County visited multiple locations in mid-February. The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District released a timeline of the individual’s movements, warning that others may have been exposed to the highly contagious virus.

Health officials have identified the following locations and timeframes as potential exposure sites:
Friday, February 14, 2025
- 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Allsup’s Convenience Store, Wall, TX
- 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.: Texas State University, San Marcos, TX
- 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.: Twin Peaks Restaurant, San Marcos, TX
Saturday, February 15, 2025
- 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Main Campus
- 2:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.: Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, and Ripley’s Illusion Lab, San Antonio, TX
- 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.: Mr. Crabby’s Seafood, Live Oak, TX

- 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Buc-ee’s, New Braunfels, TX

According to DSHS, the measles virus can remain airborne for up to two hours after an infected person has left an area. Individuals who were present at these locations during or shortly after the listed times should monitor for symptoms.
Health Officials Urge Vigilance
Measles symptoms typically develop 7 to 21 days after exposure and may include:
- High fever
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Red, watery eyes
- A characteristic rash that begins on the face and spreads downward
If symptoms appear, individuals are advised to contact their healthcare provider before visiting a medical facility to prevent further virus spread.
Current Status & Prevention Measures
As of February 28, 2025, no measles cases have been confirmed in Bexar County, but health officials warn that cases may still emerge before March 8, based on the incubation period.
Vaccination remains the most effective defense against measles. The Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine is 97% effective when two doses are administered, according to DSHS (dshs.texas.gov).
Officials encourage anyone who is unvaccinated or uncertain about their immunization status to consult their healthcare provider as soon as possible.
