Harlingen, Texas– Each December Veterans groups and volunteers across the nation place a Christmas Wreath at as many veteran grave sites as they can.  This year, with the help of the Harlingen Advisory Board, National Wreath Day which is observed on December 15, will also be celebrated here.

A Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at Pendleton Park/Veterans Memorial Park located at 1425 Morgan Boulevard at 11 a.m.  Afterward, volunteers and loved ones will head to the Harlingen Cemetery on F Street and Ashland Memorial Park located at 21037 Godwin Road where they have identified 125 Veteran grave sites.

Wreaths across America is a national observation that got started at Arlington National Cemetery to honor and remember those who proudly served in the military.  According to the website, there are more than 1400 participating locations in the U.S.

The Harlingen Advisory Board which is spearheading the program locally has been fundraising since August.  The goal was to purchase a wreath for each of the 125 graves identified.  Family members were also encouraged to purchase one for their loved ones for $15.

The community is invited to attend the ceremony and then help place the wreaths at the cemeteries.
