The Harlingen City Commission voted this week to approve an incentive for the development of a new hotel set to open in the winter of 2018.

As per the approved incentive, the Qube Hotel Group will receive city-donated, right-of-way property to develop the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. Construction for the 95-unit hotel is set to begin in late or early February.

The world-class, franchised hotel will be located between Ed Carey Drive and New Hampshire Street on the westbound side of I-69; it will employ 25-30 people.

“The Harlingen EDC and the City of Harlingen worked hand in hand with us to bring this project to the community,” said Hiren Govind, CHO, Chief Operating Officer for Govind Development Company and partner with Qube Hotel Group. “We are very pleased with the growth that is occurring in this market and look forward to bringing another lodging choice to Harlingen.”

Qube Hotel Group, a Dallas area-based group, has extensive experience in hotel management spanning all geographies, brands, and business cycles. The Group is engaged in the building, acquisition, repositioning and the management of full- and select-service hotels. The Group believes in building and designing custom hotels that cater to the specific market, personnel and circumstances of each asset.

Harlingen EDC Director Raudel Garza said the city is experiencing more growth than meets the eye.

“This hotel is just one of several under design and construction right now,” Garza said. “Our proximity to the international bridge at Los Indios, access to the Matamoros-to-MazatlĆ”n Highway, our central location in the region, and our fabulous airport with the longest runways in South Texas, all add to the long list of advantages of being in Harlingen.”

Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell agrees.

“With Valley International Airport offering excellent flight options daily, and our central location, Harlingen is the perfect place to stay for the business traveler that must cover the entire Rio Grande Valley,” Mayor Boswell said.Ā Ā
