HARLINGEN, TEXAS – It has been nearly a year since COVID-19 rapidly spread throughout our community. This virus changed how we live, and it changed how we do business. The pandemic isn’t over, and we continue to see the economic toll it has taken on our small business community.

The Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) staff has been monitoring the current state of the small business community. In order to better help evaluate, HEDC staff is encouraging Harlingen business owners to take a simple survey that will take no more than a few minutes.

The survey, much like the one first sent out by the HEDC in March of 2020, would help staff gather information on the current state of Harlingen businesses.

Since the initial survey, the HEDC created a small business loan that opened in May of 2020 and closed in September of 2020. The loan helped more than 50 Harlingen businesses by lending nearly $500,000 in funds.

This survey will allow the HEDC staff to compare and identify trends one year later as small businesses continue to endure the pandemic.
