FALFURRIAS, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a 21 year-old United States citizen after a failed methamphetamine smuggling attempt at the immigration checkpoint.

On Sunday afternoon, agents working at the Falfurrias immigration checkpoint referred a Ford Expedition to the secondary inspection area. Utilizing non-intrusive inspection technology available at the checkpoint, agents discovered more than 75 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside. The drugs have an estimated street value of over $2.5 million.

Border Patrol arrested the driver and turned the case over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
