Mission, Texas – As concerns started to rise regarding COVID-19, Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) officials and city leaders from Mission, Alton, and Palmhurst quickly began communicating and looking for ways to support each other’s efforts. That has only increased as action plans started to be implemented.

“We are so blessed to not just have a strong working relationship with our three main city partners,” explained Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “We have seen that grow and it is resulting in some great efforts to work collaboratively in addressing the needs of our communities as best as possible. While we each have specific responsibilities there are always opportunities so we can help each other in getting those things done.”

One of the most recent steps Mission CISD is taking to support the cities is in providing support in the use of e-mist disinfection of facilities that have ranged from housing authority buildings, to city hall, the police and fire facilities. In addition, we have also reached out to our local churches and our employees have taught classes on how to use the e-mist disinfection in their facilities. So, we are doing everything we can to stop the spread of COVID-19. “Our custodial staff have really taken on the role of some of our biggest unsung heroes in all of this,” said Dr. Perez. “They have always played an important role in our health through their daily cleaning and disinfection of classrooms and buildings. Now, the importance of their efforts is really shining through.”

Dr. Perez said the district has also been partnering with area churches recently to include mutual support in efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19. This has included sharing of information and help in disinfection of facilities. These entities have contracted with Mission CISD to barter services such as lending the district their facilities to hold meetings. Why? Because a lot of these entities’ employees and members are also our parents and our school children would also be impacted.

“We have always been stronger together,” Perez added. “As we move forward in our efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19, it will be increasingly important for us all to support each other as much as possible and continue to be one Mission.”
