EDINBURG – Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez Jr. commended High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Commander Juan Sifuentes for being selected as the National Association of Social Work 2020 Public Citizen of the Year for the Texas Lower Rio Grande Valley branch. The Nomination & Leadership Identification Committee selected Commander Sifuentes for the regional award. He is also being considered for the state award.
This award was given to Commander Sifuentes for the prevention efforts he has done by co-founding and spearheading the Prevention Awareness Team of Hidalgo County (P.A.T.H.). He serves as the Chair for P.A.T.H. and has coordinated several prevention events and conferences to train law enforcement officers; social service providers; victim service providers; and medical personnel and educators on substance abuse, prevention, intervention and treatment services.

The Prevention Awareness Team of Hidalgo County (P.A.T.H.) is a steering committee of area law enforcement, education, non-profit drug free coalitions and support service agencies whose mission is to increase community awareness through outreach and training, and to educate the public as to the growing epidemic of opioids, prescription drug and substance abuse as part of an overarching district strategy to reduce crime and ensure safe neighborhoods in the Hidalgo County area.
