H-E-B grocery store representatives presented a check for $10,000 to Buckner Rio Grande Valley to assist with operations of the Buckner Family Hope Center at Peñitas. The gift is part of H-E-B’s Spirit of Giving initiative for community involvement.
Nonprofit Buckner International operates 28 Buckner Family Hope Centers around Texas and within six countries. Family Hope Center services typically range from a variety of community events that engage families, such as parent education classes, job skills training, financial empowerment, family coaching, programing for children, counseling and spiritual enrichment.
For the past five years, H-E-B has helped invest back into the Rio Grande Valley by organizing a shopping spree for 20 families served by the Buckner Family Hope Center at Peñitas. Each family received a $250 gift card and a guided shopping experience. The event also included breakfast, games and a raffle. This year, H-E-B leaders in the Valley wanted to do even more.
After presenting the check to Diego Silva, director of the Buckner Family Hope Center at Peñitas, H-E-B representatives will tour the center and meet staff and clients.
“We are extremely grateful for the philanthropic efforts of H-E-B. Besides the immense financial support to the local families served by the Buckner Family Hope Center in the Rio Grande Valley, H-E-B is intentionally creating space within their stores and communities that is welcoming to all of God’s children. H-E-B and Buckner International are proud to have humble beginning right here in Texas, and together we are protecting children, building strong families and supporting senior adults across our state. It is through collaborations like these that Buckner is able to shine hope in the darkest places,” said Diego Silva, Director for Buckner Family Hope Center at Peñitas.
