BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is excited to announce H-E-B Hunger Relief as the Title and Presenting Sponsor of the 5th Anniversary of Empty Bowls Lower Valley, taking place Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Brownsville Events Center.

Empty Bowls Lower Valley is a community fundraiser that raises funds and awareness about food insecurity across the Rio Grande Valley. The event brings the community together around food while supporting the Food Bank RGV’s mission to ensure families and individuals have access to the meals they need.

With H-E-B Hunger Relief serving as Title and Presenting Sponsor, their generous support will help provide 100,000 meals for neighbors at risk of hunger in the Rio Grande Valley.

“H-E-B has long been a dedicated partner in supporting the communities they serve, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support,” said Libby A. Saenz, CEO of Food Bank RGV. “Their commitment to Empty Bowls Lower Valley helps raise awareness about hunger in the Rio Grande Valley while providing the resources needed to ensure families and individuals have access to the meals they need.”

Now celebrating its 5th anniversary, Empty Bowls Lower Valley has become a growing community event in Brownsville, bringing together local businesses, restaurants, and residents in support of the Food Bank RGV’s work to address food insecurity throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

The evening will feature more than a dozen local restaurants serving up one of their signature dishes for guests to enjoy. Attendees will spend the night sampling a variety of food tastings while enjoying DJ music, browsing silent auction items, and connecting with others who care about making a difference in the community. Participating restaurants will also compete in the event’s popular salsa contest, adding a fun and flavorful element to the evening as guests sample and vote for their favorites.

A meaningful tradition of the event is that each guest receives a hand-painted ceramic bowl. The bowl serves as a reminder of the empty bowls that still exist in the community and the shared commitment to continue working until every family and individual has the meals they need.
