Mr. Gary R. Gurwitz, a local attorney manages one of the largest law firms in the Valley. He is one that has dedicated most of his life to giving back to his community.
His community activities are numerous and he currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the South Texas College from 1993 to the present and as a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He is also Vice-Chairman for the University of Texas-Pan American School of Business Administration, the Business Advisory Council, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Cancer Foundation. He is the recipient of the American Heart Association, Upper Valley Division, Heart of Gold Award, 1993 and the Muscular Dystrophy Association Humanitarian of the Year Award, 2004.
For years Mr. Gurwitz has actively supported the University of Texas and its law school. He is a member of The Littlefield Society, the President’s Associates, the Executive Committee of the Chancellor’s Council, the Longhorn Foundation, and the University of Texas School of Law Dean’s Roundtable and Dean’s Council. In the past, he has served as a Director of the University of Texas School of Law Alumni Association and as a District Director for the University of Texas Ex-Students’ Association Council.

Without wasting time, Mayor Darling challenged Consul Guillermo Ordórica to a bicycle race. This, after he learned that Consul Ordórica at one time in his life was a star cyclist.
