RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – UTRGV is one of more than 20 institutions of higher education to participate in the Grow with Google Career Readiness Program’s new expansion to better reach Hispanic-Serving Institutions.

Google in 2021 announced the expansion as a commitment to economic equity for Latinos, with the goal of providing tools and resources that help students secure internships and jobs when they complete their education.

Google is partnering with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and is investing $2 million for college career service centers at HSIs across the country, to train 200,000 Latino college students in digital skills by 2025.

Kamara Jackson, director of the UTRGV Career Center, said this is an exciting opportunity for UTRGV students because it will prepare them and empower them to be competitive and transformative as they pursue their careers.

“The addition of these digital skills helps solidify our efforts to influence UTRGV students to have a global presence and impact,” she said. “Having access to these digital skills allows UTRGV students with desirable competencies that add to their evolving wheelhouse.”

UTRGV and other institutions taking part in the program will award Google Career Certificate Scholarships to participating students to help them continue to develop the skills needed to succeed in high-growth jobs.
