McALLEN, Texas – It’s that time of the year. Spring has sprung and we are spring cleaning our city. Keep McAllen Beautiful (KMB) is organizing their annual Greatest American Clean-Up & Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-off to take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 8am-12noon at McAllen Municipal Park. Put your cleaning shoes on and join us as we traverse our city’s major streets, hike and bike trails, city parks and schools to help keep our city looking clean and beautiful.
Everyone is encouraged to participate. Volunteers come from all walks of life such as students, business leaders, civic and non-profit organizations, individuals, families, community and religious groups, sororities, fraternities, sports teams, and the military. Volunteers who participate will be issued safety vests, gloves, trash bags, a free t-shirt, and then assigned a designated area to pick up litter. This year, volunteers are being encouraged to transport themselves to assigned areas. Once volunteers complete their cleanup and return to the park, they will be treated to hot dogs, soda, games and various raffle prizes.
This is a great opportunity for anyone desiring community service hours to participate, do something meaningful, and get credit for it! “We are asking the public to volunteer, join and become part of the Mayor’s “McAllen Shines” efforts to help our city keep clean and beautiful. In addition, we are requesting that drivers be extra cautious and look-out for volunteers who will be busy cleaning our streets throughout the entire city on that day”.
The Don’t mess with Texas Trash-Off is the single largest one-day cleanup event in the state and serves as Texas’s signature event for the Greatest American Cleanup, the nation’s largest community improvement program implemented by Keep America Beautiful. The Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off is part of Texas Department of Transportation’s litter prevention program, which includes Don’t mess with Texas, Adopt-a-Highway, and a grassroots partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful.
