Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement today in response to announcements from both the Texas House and Senate indicating that the chambers will adjourn sine die on Friday, August 15, 2025, if a quorum is not reached. The move follows Texas House Democrats’ decision to leave the state during the current special session.
“With the Texas House and Senate today announcing they are prepared to sine die on Friday, I will call the Texas Legislature back immediately for Special Session #2,” Governor Abbott said.
According to the Governor, the upcoming session will mirror the current one in scope. “The Special Session #2 agenda will have the exact agenda, with the potential to add more items critical to Texans,” Abbott stated.
The Governor criticized the absent legislators for leaving the state during active legislative work. “There will be no reprieve for the derelict Democrats who fled the state and abandoned their duty to the people who elected them,” Abbott said.
Abbott emphasized his intent to keep convening the legislature until his priorities are addressed. “I will continue to call special sessions after special sessions until we get this Texas first agenda passed,” he said.
