Gov. Abbott appoints Rigo Villarreal to the governing board of DIR

McAllen, TX.–Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Superintendent of McAllen-Hidalgo and Anzalduas International Bridges Rigoberto Villarreal to the governing board of the Department of Information Resources (DIR).

The DIR coordinates, monitors, and directs information resources management within state government.

“I am grateful and honored to have received an appointment from Governor Abbott to the Department of Information Resources,” Villarreal said. “I hope to provide technology leadership, solutions, and value to our great State of Texas government, education and local entities to assist the fulfillment of their core missions.”

Villarreal was appointed to Superintendent of Bridges in October of 2011. He oversees the operations of two of the highest traveled bridges in the Rio Grande Valley. His extensive background in pubic administration, community, public relations and management of government projects and services is utilized in his continuous efforts for improvements towards the success of both bridges.

He currently serves on the following organizations: the Border Trade Alliance, committee member of the Border Trade Advisory, board member of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and board member of the Rio Grande Valley Chamber of Commerce.

After being a migrant farm worker, traveling to Minnesota and Iowa, Mr. Villarreal pursued his education at the University of Texas Pan American where he earned his Bachelor’s of Social Work as well as his Masters in Public Administration in 1994. Villarreal is married to Ginna and has four children: David Julian, Carlette, Mia and Natalia.

Villarreal’s term with the DIR will expire February 1, 2021.
