Starlink, the satellite-based internet service operated by SpaceX, experienced a significant service disruption on July 24, 2025, affecting tens of thousands of users across the United States, as well as parts of Europe and Asia. Reports began surfacing around 3:00 p.m. ET, with the outage rapidly expanding in scope and duration.

According to BNO News, the disruption began in the early afternoon and continued into the evening, with the platform reporting: āStarlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating.ā The issue affected connectivity in multiple U.S. states, including Texas and California, as well as in countries such as the United Kingdom and Ukraine.

Data from Down Detector and Status Gator showed a dramatic spike in reported connectivity issues beginning shortly after 3:30 p.m. EDT. The outage map displayed a dense concentration of reports across major urban and rural areas, including Dallas, San Francisco, and parts of rural Texas. A user from central Texas commented on Reddit, āNo service for over an hour. Rebooted the dish twice. Still no connection.ā
In its coverage, Hindustan Times confirmed that āaround 60,000 users reported issues during the peak of the outage.ā At the same time, The Times of India noted that Starlink had suffered a similar but less severe outage earlier this month on July 11, affecting approximately 1,000 users.
Although the cause of the outage remains unclear, prior research suggests that several factors may contribute to Starlink service interruptions. A 2022 study published on arXiv found that rain, dense cloud cover, and high moisture content in the atmosphere can lead to throughput drops of up to 40ā50%. Additionally, the use of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites inherently introduces variability in service reliability due to handoffs between satellites and limited line-of-sight in obstructed environments.
Geopolitical factors may also play a role. In Ukraine, where Starlink has become a key communications platform, service management has reportedly included dynamic restrictions based on operational and military concerns. The Wikipedia entry on āStarlink in the Russian-Ukrainian Warā states, āStarlinkās coverage has been deliberately limited in some active combat zones due to national security concerns.ā
This most recent disruption follows increased global reliance on satellite internet, especially in remote and underserved areas. SpaceX has yet to release a detailed statement on the root cause or anticipated resolution time, but the companyās support site continues to display a notice acknowledging the outage.
Users are encouraged to monitor Starlinkās official status page and utilize platforms such as DownDetector for real-time updates. In the meantime, affected individuals have been advised to restart their terminals, check for firmware updates, and report persistent connectivity failures through the support channels.
As of the time of writing, partial restoration has been reported in some regions, though no formal all-clear has been issued.
