EDINBURG, TEXAS – MARCH 16, 2016 – What a fantastic idea, we all love ice cream specially from Ben & Jerry’s Homemade store. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the sweet geniuses behind such favorite ice cream flavors like Chunky Monkey®, Cherry Garcia®, and Half Baked®, will be the featured presenters at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s upcoming Distinguished Speaker Series.

The iconic Ben and Jerry duo, founders of Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc., will be at the Fieldhouse on the UTRGV Edinburg Campus. Doors open at 7 p.m. for UTRGV students, faculty and staff with a valid UTRGV ID. Doors open at 7:20 p.m. for the general public. The event starts at 7:30 p.m.

The talk, titled “Entrepreneurial Spirit, Social Responsibility and Radical Business Philosophy,” will be an inspiring tribute to America’s business spirit, full of anecdotes and radical business philosophy, and comes complete with servings of Ben & Jerry’s famous ice cream for audience members.

“Yes, free ice cream will be provided to attendees,” said Cindy Mata-Vasquez, UTRGV director for Student Activities.

Considered the “pioneers of caring capitalism,” Ben and Jerry are the men behind one of the most talked-about and least conventional success stories in American business. By harnessing the power of social responsibility and creative management, they built a storefront venture into an ice cream and business phenomenon.

“We hope students walk away with a revived vision for the business model and with a message that they can attain anything that they set their minds too,” Mata said.

This is the last Distinguished Speakers Series event for the UTRGV academic year. Mata said a committee would reconvene this summer to plan the 2016-2017 series.

For students interested in serving on the committee for 2016-2017, Mata asks they that contact the Student Government Association or Student Involvement at (956) 882-5111 or (956) 665-2660 to get involved.
