McAllen, Texas – September is National Library Card Sign Up Month and the McAllen Public Library wants to make sure community members have the most powerful card of all – a FREE library card. Stop by any MPL location to open a free library card account today.
Patron account specialists will be available every Saturday in September at the Main Library to assist with obtaining a library card. Patrons of McAllen Public Library will also have an opportunity to help the less fortunate and help themselves out of library fines with a “Food for Fines” drive in September, which is also Hunger Action Month, benefitting the RGV Food Bank. For every non-perishable food item donated, the library will waive $1 from library fines. There is no limit on the amount a citizen can donate or get waived. Acceptable food donations must be sealed, non-perishable, not expired, and not in a glass container.
“A library card can open so many doors. From books to e-books, research databases, to free and live online tutoring, the library has something for everyone,” said Roberto Zapata, Assistant Director of Public Services. “We invite the entire community to visit us and take advantage of all the programs and services we have to offer. Plus, if you need to get your library account back on track, you can donate food items to take care of overdue library fines.”
A McAllen Public Library card can be used from home, too. The library offers access to important educational resources, like Tutor.com, Learning Express Library, Texshare Databases, and more from the eBranch.
