Brownsville, Texas – National Electric Coil, a remanufacturer of large motors and alternators, will expand its operations by 119 new jobs within the next 3 years and invest $4 million in new equipment, Helen Ramirez, CEO/ Executive Director of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation (GBIC) announced recently.
“Currently, National Electric Coil employs 221 people. Its expansion will bring the expected workforce to over 340 employees,” said Ramirez. “This will represent a 35% employee growth rate over the next three years.
National Electric Coil/Rail Products International determined it was necessary to consolidate operations, which were located in both Brownsville, Texas and Columbus, Ohio. The consolidation will require extensive planning and implementation of significant resources, according to Robert G. Barton, President and CEO of NEC/RPI. “With the help of GBIC, the City of Brownsville, and IBC Bank, combined with the strong work ethic of our employees in Brownsville, we decided to consolidate the operations here in Brownsville,” said Barton.
The consolidation of operations in Brownsville has allowed NEC/RPI to continue building its worldwide reach in supporting utilities and railroads.
“Performance-based incentives are a win-win-win for the people of Brownsville, the manufacturer, and the City,” said John Cowen, Jr., Chairman of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation Board of Directors. “Helping to create jobs for local Brownsville citizens and helping Brownsville build a stronger economy is what GBIC is all about.”
The Greater Brownsville Incentives Board of Directors approved a performance-based incentive package predicated on job creation, wages paid, and job training provided to local Brownsville residents by the manufacturer. “Performance based incentives are part of a contract between Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation and the manufacturer. When the manufacturer verifies that it has fulfilled its contractual obligations, GBIC will deliver on incentives,” said Ramirez.
“It’s good to see growth and expansion again in Brownsville,” Ramirez continued. “The recent BCIC announcements of the expansion of Tortilleria Monterrey and now National Electric Coil / Rail Products International Inc. are good news as we look forward to a post-COVID future.”
