Mission, Texas – As concerns over COVID-19 began to swell with the start of Spring Break, the Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) administration and Board of Trustees wanted to do their best to make sure students and employees were taken care of as best as possible. An emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees was called during the break to share the plans being implemented to address many obstacles. The trustees also unanimously approved a resolution granting administration flexibility to address a number of needs as they come up in an effort to better serve everyone.

For district employees, one of those concerns was to assure them that they would continue to receive their full pay throughout the time of school closure.

“We know that making these types of decisions early on not only helps employee morale,” explained Dr. Carol G. Perez. “This also helps give them a little more peace of mind as they continue to work through the challenges we are facing as a district and community.”

For hourly district employees who are able to work in support of continuing student services, they will be paid time and a half. Teachers and other professional staff will be compensated for their time as well.

District officials also arranged to have pay dates to be moved up a few days this month to help employees.

While Governor Greg Abbott has ordered schools closed until at least April 3. Mission CISD is continuing its stance; closed until further notice. This permits the district to assess all guidance and rules from federal, state, and local officials in determining when best to reopen schools, based upon the progress of the pandemic status.
